Welcome to my website. I am the director of the Conservation and Food & Agriculture programs at the Breakthrough Institute and a co-author of An Ecomodernist Manifesto. Through June 2019, I am also a visiting researcher at the University of Tasmania where I am part of a team studying drivers of agricultural expansion and forecasting future land-use change. I’m interested in how technology can help decouple environmental impacts from economic growth. My current work focuses on strategies to address the twin challenges of meeting food demand and protecting biodiversity.
